Tonight I was able to go to a screening of (500) days of summer, brought to the masses by fox searchlight. Excited to see this film since it hit Sundance, I'm happy to say it was even better than I thought it would be. As Marc Webb's first feature film, it's unexpected, charming, and original. Not only does Zooey Deschanel shine as Summer, the girl, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes it easy and enjoyable to relate to the protagonist, Tom, and as an added bonus he's absolutely adorable. The supporting cast add variety and laughs in perfect synchronicity with the more dramatic. I was especially happy to see Los Angeles featured in a non-glitzy way. I was also impressed with Chloe Moretz's amazing job as Tom's no-bullshit little sister/therapist. Plus, what's that? Wolfmother! The Smiths! Hall & Oates! Regina Spektor! Feist! Carla Bruni! Mumm-Ra! [there's a scene in a karaoke bar, too!]
here are reviews by real reviewers that i agree with
Opens in select theaters July 17
Summer: "We've been like Sid and Nancy for months now."
Tom: "We had some disagreements, but I hardly think I'm Sid Vicious."
Summer: "No, I'm Sid."
Tom: "Oh, so I'm Nancy?"
